Development Services

DEVELOPMENT CHARGES

The Township has adopted Bylaw 2014-60, the effective date of which is October 6, 2014. Development Charges are permitted under the Provincial Development Charges Act. According to this Act “The Council of a municipality may by bylaw impose development charges against land to pay for increased capital costs required because of increased needs for services arising from development”.

A Background Report was prepared and used for the justification of the charge and has identified capital costs associated with various municipal functions including roads and bridges, streetlighting, fire and rescue, emergency management, police services, libraries, environmental services, bylaw enforcement, community and leisure services, and planning services. The Development Charge is collected at the issuance of a building permit.
