Township Facilities


The Township of Rideau Lakes offers several types of facilities to its residents and members of the visiting public. These include community halls, recreation facilities, harbours, a library system and an aerodrome.
 


Aerodrome
The Township owns an aerodrome with a 3,000 foot runway, located near Westport on Upper Rideau Lake. The aerodrome is managed by the Rideau Lakes Flying club. For more information see the Aerodrome Page.


Harbours

The Township owns 2 Harbours:  Newboro and Portland.  Information can be found on the Harbours Page.


Library System
The Rideau Lakes Public Library system consists of five branches located in Elgin, Delta, Newboro, Portland and South Elmsley. Information about the library system can be found on the Library Page.

 


Community Halls

Hall Rental Fees

All Municipally owned halls are smoke free.

Details to rent these halls are available by contacting the specific hall rep or by calling the Department of Community & Leisure Services at the Municipal Offices

Chaffeys Locks Community HallChaffey's Locks Community Hall (1661 Chaffey's Lock Road)
In the center of town sits an historic building that is home to the Heritage Society of Chaffey's Locks, the Chaffey's Locks Seniors, fast paced games of euchre, lots of social functions and events. The chair of the Hall Board is Dave Brown at 613-359-5466. For information on what's happening in this busy community hall or to rent it contact Catherine Carbino at 613-359-5984.

Elgin Municipal ComplexElgin Municipal Complex (47 Main Street)
This busy community hall is home to the South Crosby Friendship Adult Social Club, adult SMART exercise classes, community dinners and special events. Canada Post, the Elgin Library and the Elgin Fire Station are also located in this complex. Harry Seeley at 613-359 5664 chairs the Hall Board. Morton Community HallMorton Community Hall (13 Judd Street)
Another busy and active community, this hall is used for social events, meetings, and special occasions. To find out what is happening contact the Chair Ken Davies at 613-387-3871 or to rent the hall, contact Linda Gamble at 613-387-3799.

Newboro Community HallNewboro Community Hall (15 Drummond Street)
Right in the center of town you will find the Newboro Community Hall. Many groups and organizations book meetings and events throughout the year. Keitha Burtch is the Hall Board Chair at 613-272-3247. Information to rent the hall can be obtained by calling Wenda Lyons at 613-217-0003.

North Crosby Community CentreNorth Crosby Community Centre (875 - 8th Concession Rd)
Located on County Road 10 and the 8th Concession in Shillington Park, neighbour to the Township's Municipal Airport, the community hall is available to various community groups, for private functions and other activities. There is a fully equipped kitchen thanks to a Trillium Grant and large meeting room. The kitchen doubles as a canteen for outdoor events. Regular events include euchre groups, Adult Friendship Club, art classes and more. The Chair of the Hall Board is Pat Grundy 613-273-3031. Please call Jim Mulville at 613-273-3008 to book the hall.

Portland Community HallPortland Community Hall (24 Water Street)
The largest community hall in the Township sits along the shores of the Big Rideau Lake in Portland. Regular activities include Taoist Tai Chi, Portland Adult Social Club, adult SMART exercise classes and many fundraising activities. The chair of the Portland Hall Board is Rick Long 613-272-2188. To rent the hall call Don Burchill at 613-272-2761.

South Elmsley Municipal ComplexSouth Elmsley Municipal Complex (441 Highway 15)
Located on highway 15 near Lombardy, you will recognize this hall as the home of the O.P.P. South Elmsley Club 55 meets here regularly. Many social functions are held here and the hall offers space for meetings, art classes and other functions. A recent addition has made the kitchen top class and attractive for larger community events. Support was received through the Ontario Trillium Foundation for new kitchen appliances and cupboards. The chair of the Hall Board is Jeff Banks 613-284-6200. To rent the hall, call Rob Stoddard at 613-283-0632.

D.A.R.S. Park - Delta
Location: 47 Recreation Drive in Delta
Features: Lighted outdoor ice rink (active ball hockey league in the summer!), canteen, lighted regulation horse shoe pits and open space.

Elgin Outdoor Rink
Location:  48 Halladay Street beside the Red Brick School House and near South Crosby Public School (location of a variety of activities for children, music & BBQ during Elgin Days)
Features:  Lighted outdoor ice rink and skaters' change house.

Hanna Memorial Park
Location: 23 Water Street in Portland.
Features:  This passive park offers visitors and local residents a beautiful place to relax and watch the action on the Big Rideau Lake. Sunsets will be awesome and the peace and tranquility second to none! Just down the road the public has access to a beach for public swimming.

Kin Park
Location:  2311 to 2315 Harlem Road at Portland (across from 2314 Royal Canadian Legion)
Features:  Home to North Leeds Soccer, there is both a lighted regulation sized soccer pitch and a mini soccer field as well as a lighted softball diamond, canteen, picnic area, playground, basketball court, pop-can recycling bin and a toboggan hill for winter fun.

Lower Beverley Lake Park (waterfront Park)
Location: 146 Lower Beverley Lake Park Rd in the village of Delta.
Features:  Municipally owned and operated tent and trailer park with some seasonal cabins available to rent. For more info see: www.beverleylakepark.com or call 613-928-2881.

Lorne Park - Newboro
Location: 28 John St In the Village of Newboro
Features: softball diamond, canteen, basketball court, playground, soccer pitch, trails, forest area and picnic areas. Home of the Newboro Men's Fastball Team.

Shillington Park - North Crosby
Location: - 875 8th Concession Road just off County Road 10 near Westport
Features: lighted softball diamond, sport pad (that is also an outdoor ice rink in the winter) community hall with canteen, 2 shuffle boards, 2 lighted tennis courts, playground, trails with geocaching facilities, gardens, forest area, picnic tables, outdoor washroom facilities and pavilion.

Portland Community Park - Portland
Location:  On Campbell Street beside the Portland Community Hall 24 Water St
Features:  An older playground, picnic table, near to public beach access and seasonal outdoor washroom facilities on the side of the Community Hall.

Sand Lake Park - Elgin (waterfront park)
Location:  345 Delong Road, off Bush Rd near Elgin
Features:  beach, change rooms, washrooms, playground, trails, forest area, picnic areas, all weather shelter, site of the IPM Log Cabin and is home to the Rideau Lakes Day Camp in July & August.

Van Clief Park - Lombardy
Location: Across from 21 Blacksmith Road in Lombardy
Features: passive park with playground and picnic tables, basketball hoop and very scenic viewing along Otter Creek.


Recreation Facilities
The Township offers many recreation facilities including numerous trails, softball diamonds, tennis courts, forested areas and waterfront beaches.
