Rideau Lakes Public Library has five branches distributed throughout the Township.  The main branch and administrative headquarters are located in the village of Elgin.  There are also branches in Delta, Newboro, Portland and South Elmsley.

  • over 39,000 books, DVDs and other items
  • an online catalogue at where patrons can search the library catalogue, place holds and renew items at any time
  • over 1,000,000 eBooks through Overdrive
  • a unique Local History Collection
  • one-on-one technology help, wireless internet and computer access at all branches
  • quality reference resources such as: Ancestry Library Edition; Novelist - a book lover's resource; and Chilton Automotive Repairs
  • online courses through our partnership with Contact North, Ontario's Distance Education & Training Network
  • public library material throughout Ontario through the interlibrary loan service
  • family passes to many Ottawa museums


offer the following services to ADULTS and SENIORS:

  • support to 14 book clubs
  • weekly technology workshops
  • monthly card making workshop and weekly Hooks & Books fibre club
  • outreach service to homebound residents


deliver the following programs to FAMILIES, CHILDREN and TEENS:

  • weekly story time for young children and their care-givers
  • holiday programs such as March Break, Christmas and Valentine's Day


  • visits to local schools, Rideau Lakes Day Camp, and Elgin Cooperative Nursery School
  • the TD Summer Reading Club, summer Reading Rescue help, and tutoring space
  • weekly Tweens Book Club and Make-it and Teen Writers Club
  • the popular Read to Every Kid Every Day
