Planning a Major Special Event?

Are you planning on holding a public event, festival and/or parade within the Township of Rideau Lakes with 200+ people in attendance? As per By-Law 2007-19 a Festival Licence is required.  A copy of the Festival By-Law can be found on the By-Laws page.  Completed application forms must be received by the Clerk at least 1 month prior to the event.

CLOGGING at the Newboro Community Hall every Wednesday evening at 7pm and at the South Elmsley Municipal Complex (OPP Offices on Hwy 15) Thursday afternoons from 2-4pm.  This is a fun way to exercise and expand your dance talents!  Classes are $2 a class.  Sponsored by the Newboro Recreation Committee.  Cal Dorothy for details 613-272-8053.

NEWBORO CANADA DAY PARADE is the only parade being held in Rideau Lakes…come and enjoy the show!  Parade floats meet at the ball diamond (Lorne Park) at 6:15pm and then at 7:00pm the route will travel throughout town.  Homes are encouraged to decorate in Red & White - prizes are awarded.  The evening ends at the Newboro Community Hall with refreshments. Then hop the bus and travel to Rideau Vista to watch the fireworks display sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 542, Township of Rideau Lakes, North Crosby Recreation, Heritage Canada and many community businesses.

July 12-15 - ELGIN DAYS - IT'S a GO!  Even with the construction on County Road 8, the community has decided to continue with tradition and have Elgin Days the second weekend of July. Starting Thursday, Silent Auction bidding opens at 6:45pm during Bingo and continues all weekend. Friday at the Community Hall enjoy coffee & treats from 9:30 - 11am and then 6-handed euchre and light lunch at 7:30pm. Friday night Quiz Night (7pm) and Spaghetti Dinner (5pm) at the Elgin Lions Hall $10/person.  Then beginning Saturday morning participate in the traditional village-wide yard sale and enjoy a multitude of other activities from the free pancake breakfast at Bethel Church to the village-wide water fight at the rink at 3pm. Book sales, music, BBQ’s, special vendors, bake sales, children’s activities, toy sales and special activities for the whole family. The annual firefighters chicken BBQ starts at 4pm at the Lions Hall.  Beer garden and Wayne Scott and band.  Remember to complete your Elgin Days Passport for a chance to win a free chicken dinner.

On Sunday gather at the United Church at 10am for a Worship Celebration with Gracenote.  From 2-6pm at the Lions Hall enjoy music by Jeff Code and a cold buffet (bar) $15/person.

July 26-29 - DELTA FAIR Come and celebrate 188 years of the Delta Fair over four continuous days of fun.  Located in the heart of Delta on the Agricultural grounds at 110 Mill Creek Drive in Delta. Enjoy the thrill of the World's Finest Shows midway.  There will be something for everyone including Agricultural Displays and Home Crafts Exhibits.  There will be Live Entertainment on the main grandstand throughout the Fair. August 3-6 - The 152nd LOMBARDY FAIR Proudly celebrating 152 years of Country Hospitality with Something for Everyone! The attractive white buildings and all those bright orange roofs have become a local landmark for residents as well as travellers on Hwy 15. Over the last 30 plus years at this location the Lombardy Fair has grown and expanded to act as a benchmark for other fairs in Ontario. The Lombardy Fair has set high standards for itself and will continue to provide country hospitality, entertainment and agricultural education for the whole family, whether they have rural or urban roots. At the Fair enjoy Produce, Home Craft, Local School and Handcraft displays. Take in the Agricultural Showcase. For the western horse enthusiast there are Ranch Competitions and Extreme Cowboy Races. Simply charming is the Junior Fair Ambassador Contest Show (Fri), Baby Show (Sun).

For lots of excitement, we offer Kids Tractor Pulls, Farmer's Olympics for kids ages 7-14, as well as lots of exciting events and exhibits in the Livestock Barn Agricultural & Education Centre. Take in the beloved Demolition Derby on Friday evening; Antique Tractor, Farm Stock and Lawn & Garden Tractor Pull and Modified Class on Saturday afternoon; 4X4 Truck Pulls and Modified Class (open to all local pullers) on Sunday afternoon. The ever-popular Annual 4-H Horde Show and Brush up on Your Skills Day; 4-H Club Dairy Achievement Day and the  Horse and Pony Pull rounds off the four-day fair. We are excited to have the Grass Drags back with us for a second year!

Like it a little quieter?  Sit and enjoy yourself in our beautiful tree-shaded park complete with picnic tables where you can enjoy ongoing entertainment of a wide variety on the Park Stage daily. November 24 - 24th Annual DELTA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS Pageant - 6:30pm featuring the Deltones Community Choir. Join us for this interactive celebration of Christmas! The evening begins at 6:30pm at Delta Baptist Church (24 King St), then a short walk to the Delta United Church (36 King St) to meet the Shepherds, on to St. Paul's (77 King St) for King Herod and the Magi, and finally to the Mill Drive Shed (46 King St) for the Manger Scene. There will be choir anthems and carol singing amidst the Christmas story narrative with children dressed in Biblical costumes representing the key people in the Christmas story.
