Planning a Major Special Event?

Are you planning on holding a public event, festival and/or parade within the Township of Rideau Lakes with 200+ people in attendance? As per By-Law 2007-19 a Festival Licence is required.  A copy of the Festival By-Law can be found on the By-Laws page.  Completed application forms must be received by the Clerk at least 1 month prior to the event.

For further information regarding the Festival Licence process, please contact the Clerk's office at mtruelove@twprideaulakes.on.ca or Ext 293.

CHAFFEYS LOCK COMMUNITY HALL MARKET SQUARE every Sunday from late May to October.  Local craftspersons and artists.


CLOGGING at the Newboro Community Hall every Wednesday evening at 7pm and at the South Elmsley Municipal Complex (OPP Offices on Hwy 15) Thursday afternoons from 2-4pm.  This is a fun way to exercise and expand your dance talents!  Classes are $2 a class.  Sponsored by the Newboro Recreation Committee.  Cal Dorothy for details 613-272-8053.


COMMUNITY SHOPPING BUS sponsored through the Portland Seniors Club leaves for the local shopping mall in Kingston every 2nd Tuesday of the month.  Call Vicki at 613-272-2676 to reserve your seat.  Cost $15.00 return trip.  Not just for seniors!  All ages welcome.

SKATE THE LAKE

February 17 & 18 - SKATE THE LAKE 2018 with guests from overseas - we have Dutch skaters coming for a visit on Saturday and then Sunday we will host our 15th annual Skate the Lake Event.  Join us on a 1km natural ice oval located on Big Rideau Lake.  The day is filled with international speed skaters racing 5k, 10k, 25k and 50k races, relay races and fun community group races.  Curling and recreational skating are also offered with a bevy of refreshments to stave off the cold.  And to top it off - an amazing winter fireworks display at dusk, right on the ice. PARKINSON'S AWARENESS MONTH

June 30 & July 1  - The 20th RIDEAU LAKES STUDIO AND GARDEN TOUR What better way to spend the Canada Day Weekend than prowling the nooks and crannies of the Rideau Lakes area and checking out the gems to be found on this year’s Tour.  This tour has become one of the most successful tours in the area and the artists are looking forward to showing off this wonderful country we live in.  The Tour continues to attract new artists while maintaining a core of favorites.  Located in the heart of the Rideau Lakes district concentrated around the villages of Portland, Philipsville and Chaffey's Locks, the 2018 tour will be held on Saturday, June 30th and Sunday, July 1st, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. At some studios you will meet surprise guest artists who are unadvertised but are invited by their hosts. The goal is to have more than one artist at a stop to make your tour experience more enjoyable. You will find paintings, candles, pottery, quilts, weaving, woodworking, sculpture and jewelry for your home and garden. July 13-15 - ELGIN DAYS - IT'S a GO!  Even with the anticipated construction on County Road 8, the community has decided to continue with tradition and have Elgin Days the second weekend of July. Starting Friday night the Elgin Lions offer a Quiz Night and Spaghetti Dinner.  Then beginning Saturday morning participate in the traditional village-wide yard sale and enjoy various other activities from music, BBQ’s, special vendors, parade, bake sales, children’s activities, morning coffee drop-in at the Elgin Municipal Complex, Bethel Church free pancake breakfast and special activities for the whole family. Elgin Lions Saturday outdoor music and beer tent, 9am to 1pm an antique car/motorcycle display, silent auction and in the evening enjoy the firefighters chicken BBQ (at the Lions Hall).

On Sunday in the afternoon at the Elgin Lions Hall take your chance at Bingo followed by an evening fish fry and at the Elgin Municipal Complex an ecum,enical Worship Celebration at 7pm.

Take in the beloved Demolition Derby on Friday evening; Antique Tractor, Farm Stock and Lawn & Garden Tractor Pull and Modified Class on Saturday afternoon; 4X4 Truck Pulls and Modified Class (open to all local pullers) on Sunday afternoon. The ever-popular Annual 4-H Horde Show and Brush up on Your Skills Day; 4-H Club Dairy Achievement Day and the  Horse and Pony Pull rounds off the four-day fair. We are excited to have the Grass Drags back with us for a second year!
